Custom stands fail approval most often on height, fire class of materials, rigging and electrics. These are the rules the venues publish:
ExCeL London
- Structural engineer sign-off is needed for all complex structures and stands over 4 m, stages over 599 mm and rigging, and for space-only stands.
- Plans, risk assessments and method statements are required for all complex builds; double-deck stands need a competent person appointed by the client and principal contractor.
- Ceiling (primary) rigging is installed only by ExCeL's own rigging team.

NEC Birmingham (example: Homebuilding & Renovating Show rules)
- Stand walls must be dressed above 2.4 m, up to a maximum height of 4 m.
- Walk-on platforms of 600 mm or higher need full structural calculations sent to the organiser for approval.
- Solid timber under 25 mm thick must be pressure-impregnated to Class 1 flame-resistant standard; nothing may be suspended from the hall roof.

Shipping a stand from Istanbul to UK
Customs framework: The UK–Türkiye Free Trade Agreement was signed on 29 December 2020 and entered into force on 20 April 2021. GOV.UK says preferential tariff rates apply to goods with a declaration on origin issued by the exporter, provided the product-specific rules of origin are met. Exhibits that go back home: GOV.UK says an ATA Carnet covers goods for display or use at an exhibition or fair, provided they are re-exported in the same condition within the time limit; a carnet is usually valid for 12 months. Planning timeline for a custom stand in UK
- 20–16 weeks before: book space, send us the floor plan and stand number; we propose a design and budget.
- 16–12 weeks before: final design, structural details, material list with fire certificates; check the show manual for contractor registration and labour rules.
- Drawing deadline (set by the venue/organiser – see the rules above): submit stand drawings; order electricity, rigging and other venue-reserved services through the appointed contractors.
- 12–10 weeks before: production and pre-assembly in Istanbul.
- 10–4 weeks before: sea or air freight with the customs documents; the shipping date is fixed first because ocean transit takes several weeks.
- Build-up days: installation with the venue-appointed partners, final check with you before opening.
- After the show: dismantling and return shipment of carnet goods before the carnet expires.
