Exhibition Stand Builder in Portugal
Custom exhibition stands for Portugal's two main venues – FIL in Lisbon and Exponor near Porto – designed in Istanbul, built in our own workshop and installed to the venues' published rules.
Building an exhibition stand in Portugal: venues and rules
Portugal's main exhibition venues are FIL in Lisbon and Exponor in Matosinhos (Porto). At FIL the general stand height limit is 3 m, taller stands need drawings 20 days before build-up, mains power and rigging are done only by FIL or its concessionaires, and carpets must be fire class M3. VAV Grup designs and builds custom stands in Istanbul and installs them to these rules.

Venue rules that shape your stand design in Portugal
Custom stands fail approval most often on height, fire class of materials, rigging and electrics. These are the rules the venues publish:
FIL, Lisbon
- General height limit 3 m; higher structures need technical review with plans, sections and elevations at least 20 days before build-up (2.5 m at the Lisbon Congress Centre).
- Only fire-retardant carpet, fire class M3, is permitted.
- Exhibitors wire their own stand, but only FIL services connect it to the mains.
- Any suspension from the hall structure needs FIL authorisation and is installed by FIL's concessionaires; plans and load calculations are due 20 days before build-up.

Rules can differ per show: the organiser's exhibitor manual for your fair always takes precedence. We read that manual before the first design sketch, not after.
Shipping a stand from Istanbul to Portugal
Customs framework: Türkiye and the EU have been in a customs union for industrial goods since 31 December 1995 (Decision 1/95). Stand materials made in Istanbul therefore move into Portugal without customs duty when they travel with an A.TR movement certificate. Since 8 July 2024 EU member states accept A.TR certificates issued electronically with a QR code. (European Commission – EU–Türkiye trade; European Commission – electronic A.TR (2024))
Exhibits that go back home: Products you display and take back to Türkiye can travel on an ATA Carnet (temporary admission for goods at fairs and exhibitions). Consumables and stand parts that stay or are used up on site cannot go on a carnet; they are declared separately. We confirm the right document set with the customs broker for each shipment. (TOBB – ATA Carnet FAQ; EU Access2Markets – ATA Carnet)
Planning timeline for a custom stand in Portugal
- 16–12 weeks before: book space, send us the floor plan and stand number; we propose a design and budget.
- 12–8 weeks before: final design, structural details for double-deck or rigged elements, material list with fire certificates.
- Drawing deadline (set by the venue/organiser – see the rules above): submit stand drawings for approval; order electricity, rigging and other venue-reserved services.
- 4–2 weeks before: production and pre-assembly in our Istanbul factory, then road or sea freight with the customs documents.
- Build-up days: installation, electrical connection by the venue's contractor, final check with you before opening.
- After the show: dismantling, return shipment or storage of reusable parts.
How VAV Grup delivers stands here
We are an independent stand contractor, not an official venue supplier. Your stand is designed and manufactured in Europe – in our factory on the European side of Istanbul – and shipped to Portugal; on site, installation is coordinated with the services the venue reserves for itself (mains electricity, rigging, sometimes floor plans). One project lead keeps the drawings, material certificates, transport and build-up schedule in one plan. Send the fair name, hall and stand number, stand size and deadline and we reply with a project-specific scope and quotation.
Facts on this page were checked against the official venue, organiser and government sources linked above on 26 September 2026. Figures are the venues' own; we do not claim past projects at every venue listed.
